The ABB TA562-RS-RTC, ordering number 1SAP181500R0001, is an option board for compatible ABB AC500-eCo V2 programmable logic controllers. It combines a COM2 RS-485 serial interface with a real-time clock function in a single accessory, allowing supported PLC configurations to add serial communication and clock functionality together. <Cite refs={[“turn809929search4″,”turn809929search12”]}/>
In a machine control panel, the serial interface can be used to exchange data with compatible instruments, operator panels, or other serial devices. The integrated real-time clock is useful when the PLC application needs to associate events or process data with date and time information. For example, a controller can communicate with a serial instrument while recording time-related operating events in its application, provided the processor and program support the required functions.
The TA562-RS-RTC differs from the TA562-RS, which adds the COM2 serial interface without the combined clock function. It also differs from the TA569-RS-ISO, which provides galvanic isolation for the serial interface. These variants should not be treated as interchangeable without checking the required functions and processor compatibility.
Before selecting this adapter, confirm the exact CPU model, option-board interface, and serial communication requirements. The real-time clock also depends on the applicable battery arrangement and controller configuration, so the complete installation requirements should be checked during commissioning.

The TA562-RS-RTC combines two functions that serve different purposes within a PLC system. Its RS-485 interface carries serial data between the processor and a compatible external device, while the real-time clock supplies date and time information for applications that require time-based processing.
The communication path is:
AC500-eCo Processor → TA562-RS-RTC COM2 → RS-485 Network → External Serial Device
RS-485 uses differential signaling over a pair of conductors. The PLC application determines the protocol and how received or transmitted data is handled. If the connection uses Modbus RTU, for example, the PLC and external device must share compatible baud rate, parity, data format, and addressing settings.
The clock function operates separately from serial data transmission. It provides time information that a supported PLC application can use when recording events, scheduling operations, or tracking process changes. Clock retention during loss of controller power depends on the supported backup arrangement and battery condition.
During commissioning, both functions should be checked independently. A working serial connection does not establish that the clock is correctly set, and correct clock operation does not confirm that the RS-485 network is configured properly. The application should be tested for communication response, valid date and time values, and correct handling of power interruption.
The TA562-RS-RTC extends the processor’s communication and timekeeping capabilities. The CPU continues to execute the PLC program, while the option board supplies the additional serial interface and real-time clock function.

The TA562-RS provides the COM2 RS-485 interface. The TA562-RS-RTC combines the same general serial-interface function with a real-time clock, so the latter is appropriate when both functions are required and supported by the processor.
The associated documentation identifies a CR2032 battery as a separate item for the clock backup arrangement. Check the installed hardware and its battery requirements before commissioning.
It can be used in a compatible Modbus RTU arrangement when the PLC application and external device support the protocol. Communication parameters, addressing, and RS-485 wiring must be configured consistently.
Check the battery requirement, battery condition, installation, and the processor’s supported clock-backup arrangement. Also verify that the PLC application sets or reads the clock correctly after power is restored.
