The Ingersoll Rand 47642697001 39454558 Gasket is a flat sealing component used in compatible Ingersoll Rand compressor assemblies. It is installed between mating surfaces to close small surface irregularities and prevent lubricant, air, or other fluids from escaping through the joint.
Unlike an O-ring, which sits inside a dedicated groove, a gasket normally covers a defined sealing face between two stationary components. Its sealing performance depends on correct positioning, surface condition, compression, and the integrity of the surrounding hardware.
During compressor maintenance, the gasket may need to be replaced whenever the associated joint is opened. Reusing a compressed or damaged gasket can introduce a leakage path even when the mating components themselves remain serviceable.

The gasket is compressed between two mating components when the assembly is tightened. Its material conforms to minor surface irregularities and fills the potential leakage path between the two sealing faces.
In a screw compressor, pressure differences and lubricant circulation can place continuous demands on stationary sealing joints. A correctly installed gasket maintains contact across the mating surfaces and helps keep the fluid contained within the intended passage or housing.
Gasket leakage is not always caused by the gasket itself. Uneven tightening, damaged sealing faces, contamination, incorrect positioning, or distortion of the mating components can also prevent proper sealing. For this reason, gasket replacement should include an inspection of the complete joint.

The gasket seals the joint between two stationary mating surfaces. When compressed during assembly, it fills minor surface irregularities and helps prevent air, lubricant, or fluid from passing through the joint.
Once compressed, a gasket may not return to its original sealing condition. Reusing it can result in uneven compression or leakage, particularly when the joint has been opened for compressor maintenance.
Inspect the mating surfaces for scratches, corrosion, distortion, or contamination. Also check gasket positioning and the clamping condition of the fasteners. Uneven tightening can prevent uniform gasket compression.
The surrounding sealing components should also be inspected whenever the assembly is open. O-rings, shaft seals, and other sealing interfaces may have related wear or damage that can produce leakage in the same area.
