The ICS Triplex T8151C Trusted Communication Interface is a communication interface component used within the Trusted safety system architecture. It handles the system-side communication interface required for exchanging information between the Trusted platform and associated communication equipment.
In a plant environment, the Trusted system may need to exchange status, diagnostic, control, or other system information with supervisory computers, engineering stations, or other compatible automation equipment. The T8151C occupies the communication layer that connects the Trusted control environment with these external systems.
For maintenance engineers, the T8151C is particularly relevant when investigating communication-path faults, replacing interface hardware, or maintaining an existing Trusted installation where the processor and I/O functions remain operational but external communication is affected.

The T8151C operates at the communication layer of the Trusted system.
A simplified arrangement is:
Trusted Processor / System → T8151C → Communication Network → External System
Information generated within the Trusted system can pass through the communication interface toward compatible external equipment. Depending on the system configuration, this can include operating information, system status, diagnostics, or other data required by the connected supervisory or engineering environment.
The communication interface does not replace the Trusted processor or execute the primary safety application. Instead, it forms the connection between the Trusted processing environment and the external communication network.
When communication is interrupted, the interface, network connection, connected equipment, and processor-side communication path should be considered together during fault isolation.
| System Element | Function |
|---|---|
| T8151C | Provides the Trusted communication interface |
| Trusted TMR Processor | Executes control and safety application logic |
| Trusted I/O Modules | Interface with field devices |
| Trusted Interface Modules | Connect system hardware |
| Communication Network | Carries system information |
| Engineering Station | Supports system configuration and diagnostics |
| Supervisory System | Monitors plant or process information |
| Field Equipment | Provides process signals and receives commands |
The T8151C occupies the communication layer between the Trusted processing system and compatible external communication equipment.
| Application | Typical Use |
|---|---|
| Process Safety Systems | Trusted system communication |
| Oil and Gas | Safety-system status and data exchange |
| Chemical Processing | Control-system communication |
| Power Generation | Plant safety and supervisory interfaces |
| Refining | Safety-system information exchange |
| Emergency Shutdown Systems | System monitoring interface |
| Industrial Automation | Controller-to-supervisory communication |
| Critical Process Control | Engineering and diagnostic connectivity |
If external communication is lost while the Trusted processor and I/O remain operational, troubleshooting should follow the complete path from the Trusted system through the T8151C and network connection to the receiving system.

The communication path can carry system information according to the configured Trusted architecture, such as system status, diagnostic information, and other data exchanged with compatible external equipment.
Not necessarily. Communication with an external system and execution of the primary safety application are separate functions. The actual effect of a communication failure depends on the system architecture and application configuration.
First check the T8151C status and processor-side connection, then inspect the communication cable, network connection, and receiving equipment. Confirming where communication stops helps narrow the fault to the Trusted interface or the external network path.
The T8111C handles Trusted system processing while the T8151C serves the communication interface. Communication problems can involve the processor-side interface as well as the communication module, so both sides of the connection should be considered during diagnosis.
