The Bently Nevada 200200-10-10-AE 3300 XL Eddy Current Proximity Probe is used in machinery condition monitoring systems to measure the relative movement of a rotating shaft against a stationary reference. It operates through eddy current sensing, detecting changes in the gap between the probe tip and a conductive target without requiring direct contact.
In rotating equipment such as steam turbines, centrifugal compressors, pumps, and large industrial motors, shaft displacement measurements help maintenance teams assess vibration behavior and identify developing mechanical problems. The probe forms part of a measurement chain that typically includes a compatible extension cable and Proximitor Sensor, which processes the probe response for use by machinery monitoring electronics.
Within the 3300 XL product family, proximity measurement technology supports continuous machinery monitoring and protection applications. Correct selection of the probe, cable, sensor, and monitoring channel is essential to maintain measurement accuracy and ensure that the installed system matches the equipment requirements.

The probe generates an electromagnetic field at its sensing tip. When the tip is positioned near a conductive target, eddy currents develop in the target surface. Changes in the distance between the tip and the target alter the electrical response of the sensing circuit.
A compatible Proximitor Sensor converts this response into an electrical signal representing the measured gap or displacement. The monitoring system can then use the signal to track shaft movement, evaluate vibration behavior, and identify changes from established operating conditions.
During normal operation, the measurement channel continuously tracks changes in the probe-to-target distance. Unusual movement may be associated with mechanical imbalance, shaft misalignment, bearing-related changes, or other machine conditions. Diagnosing the cause requires consideration of operating speed, measurement location, machine design, and other available monitoring data.

It measures the relative distance between the probe tip and a conductive target. In rotating machinery applications, this measurement can support shaft displacement and vibration monitoring when connected to compatible signal-conditioning and monitoring equipment.
The probe normally operates as part of a complete measurement chain that includes a compatible extension cable and Proximitor Sensor. The sensor processes the probe’s electrical response and supplies a signal to the monitoring system.
Interchangeability should not be assumed solely because another probe belongs to the 3300 XL family. Verify the model configuration, electrical characteristics, cable requirements, mounting arrangement, and monitoring system requirements before replacement.
Inspect the probe and cable for damage, verify connector security and probe gap, and check the associated Proximitor Sensor and monitoring channel. Compare current readings with established baseline data to determine whether the issue may involve installation, the measurement chain, or actual changes in machine behavior.
