The ICS Triplex T8461C Trusted Digital Output Module is a digital output module used in the Trusted safety system to send discrete control signals from the Trusted processing architecture to external field equipment.
It fits applications where the control system needs to command equipment according to defined ON/OFF or state-based conditions. Typical output loads may include relays, solenoids, contactors, valve-control circuits, and other discrete field devices used in process and safety systems.
Within a Trusted installation, the T8461C receives output commands from the system logic and transfers the corresponding digital states toward the field side. This allows application logic to initiate equipment actions such as starting, stopping, opening, closing, tripping, or enabling an associated circuit.
For maintenance work, output behavior should be evaluated across the complete path—from the Trusted application and output channel through the field wiring and final device—especially when an actuator does not respond as expected.

The T8461C takes digital output commands generated by the Trusted control application and transfers the corresponding output states toward connected field circuits.
A practical signal path is:
Trusted Processor → T8461C → Field Wiring → Relay / Solenoid / Actuator
For example, when the application logic determines that a particular field device must be activated, the corresponding output channel is commanded to its configured state. The output circuit then drives the connected field-side device according to the system arrangement.
Typical functions can include:
The T8461C handles the digital output interface, while the Trusted processor determines when each output should change state.
| System Element | Function |
|---|---|
| T8461C | Sends digital output commands to field circuits |
| T8111C | Executes Trusted processing and application logic |
| T8403C | Acquires digital field inputs |
| T8122C | Provides processor interface adaptation |
| T8151C | Handles Trusted communication interface functions |
| T8290C | Supports output-side power distribution |
| Field Wiring | Carries output signals to connected equipment |
| Field Actuators | Execute commanded equipment actions |
The T8461C occupies the output interface layer between Trusted application logic and discrete field equipment.
| Application | Typical Use |
|---|---|
| Emergency Shutdown Systems | Trip and shutdown outputs |
| Oil and Gas | Valve and actuator control |
| Chemical Processing | Solenoid and interlock outputs |
| Power Generation | Equipment trip and control |
| Refining | Process and safety output commands |
| Manufacturing | Machine-control outputs |
| Process Plants | Discrete actuator operation |
| Industrial Automation | Relay and equipment control |
If an output command is present but the field device does not respond, check the output channel, power path, wiring, termination, and final actuator rather than assuming the T8461C is the sole source of the problem.

Depending on the system configuration, digital outputs can be associated with devices such as relays, solenoids, valve-control circuits, contactors, and other discrete field loads.
The fault may exist anywhere along the output path. Check the application command, output-channel status, associated power circuit, wiring, termination, and actuator before determining which component requires replacement.
A configured output can transmit a discrete command to an external shutdown circuit or actuator when the Trusted application determines that the corresponding safety condition has occurred. The final response depends on the complete shutdown architecture.
A module replacement confirms the hardware change, but it does not by itself prove that the complete field circuit operates correctly. Testing the relevant output verifies the channel, wiring, connected equipment, and application response as a complete path.
