The Ingersoll Rand 47545144001 54509427 Air/Oil Separator is a replacement separation component used in compatible oil-injected compressor systems. It works within the compressor’s air/oil separation stage to separate entrained compressor oil from compressed air before the air continues toward the downstream air circuit.
In an oil-injected compressor, a controlled amount of oil is introduced during the compression process for functions such as lubrication, cooling, and sealing. After compression, the resulting air stream contains oil that must be separated before the compressed air leaves the compressor. The air/oil separator forms part of this separation process and helps return separated oil to the compressor’s oil circuit.
Separator condition is therefore closely related to both compressed-air quality and the compressor’s oil-management system. During scheduled maintenance, technicians normally consider the separator together with oil condition, differential pressure indications where applicable, oil carryover, operating hours, and the condition of associated separation components.

1. Oil and air leave the compression stage together
In an oil-injected compressor, lubricant is present during compression. After the compression process, the resulting mixture contains compressed air together with entrained oil.
2. The mixture enters the separation stage
The air/oil mixture is directed into the separator assembly. The separator provides the filtration and separation surface required to remove oil from the compressed-air stream.
3. Oil is retained and separated
As the mixture passes through the separator, oil is captured and separated from the air. The separated lubricant can then be directed back toward the compressor’s oil circuit through the applicable oil-return arrangement.
4. Cleaner compressed air continues downstream
After the separation stage, the compressed air contains substantially less entrained oil and can continue into the downstream air system. The separator therefore contributes to management of oil carryover from the compressor.
5. Separator condition changes during service
Over time, contamination and accumulated oil can affect the condition of the separator. Changes in operating conditions, oil quality, compressor loading, and service history can also influence separator performance. Maintenance personnel should evaluate relevant operating indications rather than relying on a single symptom.
The 47545144001 54509427 Air/Oil Separator sits between the compression process and the downstream compressed-air circuit. It links the compressor’s air path with the oil-management system by separating entrained lubricant from compressed air and supporting the return of separated oil.

It separates entrained compressor oil from compressed air after the compression process. The separated oil can be managed through the applicable oil-return circuit while the cleaner air continues downstream.
Possible indications include increased oil carryover, abnormal separation-system operating conditions, or changes in compressor oil consumption. These symptoms should also be investigated alongside oil condition, oil-return components, and other parts of the compressor system.
The separator removes oil from the compressed-air stream, but separated oil must be managed by the associated oil-return arrangement. A restricted or contaminated return path can affect oil management even when the separator itself has been replaced.
Verify correct installation and sealing, inspect accessible air and oil connections, confirm the oil-return path is in proper condition, and monitor the compressor after startup for abnormal leakage, operating indications, or oil carryover.
