The Epro PR6423/012-111+CON031 8mm Eddy Current Sensor+Eddy Current Signal Converter combines an eddy current sensing probe with the associated signal conversion electronics for non-contact monitoring of conductive machine components. The combination is suited to rotating machinery where shaft movement needs to be measured without physically contacting the rotating surface.
The PR6423 sensor is installed at the machine side, typically facing a conductive shaft or another monitored target. The CON031 signal converter forms the electronic interface between the probe and the machinery monitoring system, handling the sensor signal so that the measured movement can be transferred to downstream monitoring equipment.
This type of arrangement is useful for machinery condition monitoring because the sensing element remains close to the rotating component while the electronic conversion stage provides the interface required by the monitoring system. Depending on the mechanical installation and system configuration, the measurement channel can be used for shaft vibration, radial displacement, axial movement, or related proximity measurements.
The combined sensor and converter arrangement also simplifies channel-level replacement planning. When troubleshooting, both the mechanical probe installation and the associated converter should be considered, since an abnormal measurement can originate from either side of the sensing chain.

The PR6423 sensor detects changes in the distance between its sensing head and the conductive machine target. When the target moves relative to the probe, the electromagnetic interaction around the sensing element changes.
The CON031 signal converter receives the probe response and converts the sensor information into a form suitable for the downstream machinery monitoring system. This allows the physical movement occurring at the machine to become an electrical measurement that can be evaluated by the monitoring equipment.
Rotating Shaft → PR6423 Sensor → CON031 Signal Converter → Machinery Monitoring System → Alarm / Protection
During operation, shaft movement changes the probe-to-target relationship. The probe detects this change, while the converter handles the corresponding signal interface. The monitoring system can then use the resulting measurement for vibration, displacement, or position supervision according to the installed channel configuration.
This arrangement separates the sensing point from the measurement-processing stage. The probe must therefore be mechanically stable and correctly positioned, while the converter and its connections must remain electrically sound for the complete measurement channel to operate correctly.
The combined PR6423/012-111+CON031 assembly forms a complete sensing and signal-conversion section within a rotating machinery monitoring channel. The sensor performs the proximity measurement at the machine, while the converter provides the electronic interface to the monitoring system.
Rotating Machine → PR6423 Sensor → CON031 → Monitoring / Protection System → Control System
| System Element | Function |
|---|---|
| Rotating Shaft | Provides the conductive target for proximity measurement |
| PR6423 Sensor | Detects changes in the target-to-probe relationship |
| CON031 Signal Converter | Converts and conditions the sensor response for downstream equipment |
| Monitoring System | Processes the measurement and evaluates machine condition |
| Protection System | Uses configured measurements for alarm or protective action |
| Control System | Uses available machinery information for operational supervision |
| Operator Interface | Presents configured vibration or displacement information |
The sensor and converter perform different functions within the same measurement channel. The probe should not be treated as a standalone monitoring system, and the converter does not replace the mechanical sensing function of the probe.

The PR6423 sensor performs the non-contact proximity measurement at the machine, while the CON031 serves as the associated signal-conversion stage. Both parts contribute to the complete measurement channel and should be considered together when checking compatibility.
A correct mechanical probe position does not eliminate problems in the sensor cable, converter connections, power or signal interface, or downstream monitoring equipment. Troubleshooting should therefore cover the entire sensor-to-monitoring path.
Replacement depends on the installed system configuration and compatibility requirements. When replacing either component, the complete channel should be checked to ensure that the sensor, converter, cabling, and monitoring equipment remain correctly matched.
The probe-to-target relationship must remain stable during machine operation. Incorrect positioning, excessive gap variation, probe movement, or an unsuitable target surface can affect the measurement before the signal even reaches the CON031 converter.
