The Emerson SE4055S2B5 is a DeltaV S-series Simplex Analog Output Plus Card used to send continuous control signals from the DeltaV control system to compatible field equipment. It is suited to process applications where a controller must continuously adjust a field device rather than simply issue an on/off command.
In a typical control loop, the DeltaV controller calculates the required output based on the process variable, setpoint, control strategy, and configured operating conditions. The SE4055S2B5 transfers the resulting analog output through the S-series I/O infrastructure and termination arrangement to the associated field circuit.
Typical receiving devices include control valve positioners, variable-speed equipment interfaces, dampers, actuators, and other equipment that responds to an analog command. The output therefore forms the final electronic stage of a control loop before the command reaches the field actuator.
The simplex configuration is appropriate for control architectures where a single analog output path is used. During commissioning, the commanded output value can be compared with the actual field response to verify channel configuration, termination, wiring, and actuator operation.

The SE4055S2B5 receives an analog output command generated by the DeltaV control strategy and transfers the corresponding control signal toward the field device.
The controller continuously determines the required output based on the configured control loop. The SE4055S2B5 then handles the I/O portion of that command, passing the signal through the associated termination and field wiring. The connected actuator or interface converts the analog command into a corresponding physical adjustment.
DeltaV Controller → SE4055S2B5 → S-series Termination / Field Interface → Actuator → Process
For example, a controller may increase an output command when additional valve opening is required. The field-side actuator responds to the changing signal and adjusts the valve position, which changes the process condition. Feedback from the process can then return through an analog input path to close the control loop.
The SE4055S2B5 occupies the analog output stage between DeltaV control logic and continuously adjustable field equipment. It does not independently determine the control action; the controller establishes the required output according to the configured process strategy.

It provides the analog output stage that transfers a continuous control command from the DeltaV system toward a compatible field actuator or interface.
An analog output allows the commanded value to vary continuously within the configured signal range, while a discrete output represents defined switching states. Analog output is therefore suitable for modulating equipment such as control valves and compatible actuators.
Check the output channel configuration first, followed by the termination assembly, field wiring, actuator interface, and receiving device. Comparing the commanded output with the actual field-side response can help isolate the problem.
A simplex arrangement is appropriate when the control strategy uses a single analog output path and the application does not require redundant output hardware. The redundancy requirements of the overall process-control system should be considered when selecting the I/O architecture.
