The Schneider TSXCTZ1B Modicon TSX Micro Absolute Encoder Counter Module is a single-channel positioning module for acquiring absolute position data from compatible SSI serial or parallel-output absolute encoders. It is used in TSX Micro automation systems where a controller needs position information for monitoring machine movement, coordinating sequences or managing positioning tasks.
The module supports SSI absolute encoders with resolutions from 8 to 25 bits and provides selectable acquisition frequencies of 200 kHz or 1 MHz, depending on the operating mode. It also supports parallel-output absolute encoders through the appropriate Telefast adaptation base. This allows the positioning interface to be selected according to the encoder’s output format and electrical requirements.
The TSXCTZ1B includes capture inputs and software-configurable positioning functions. Captured position values can be used by the control program to respond to defined machine events, while comparison functions can trigger event-driven processing when position thresholds are reached. Correct encoder configuration, signal compatibility and controller software support are essential when integrating the module into an existing TSX Micro installation.

The TSXCTZ1B receives absolute position data from a compatible encoder and makes that information available to the TSX Micro control program. With an SSI encoder, the module reads serial position data using the selected acquisition mode. When a parallel-output encoder is used, the appropriate interface base is required to connect the encoder signals to the module.
During machine operation, the module can capture a position value when a configured capture input or supported event occurs. The controller program can then use the captured value for sequence coordination, position checks or other application logic. Comparison functions evaluate position values against configured thresholds and can initiate supported event-driven processing.
Modulo, offset and retiming functions help adapt the acquired position data to the application’s coordinate system. These settings need to match the encoder resolution, machine travel and required reference position. An incorrect resolution or offset configuration can produce inaccurate position interpretation even when the encoder signals are present.
The module’s acquisition mode also affects the permitted encoder connection distance. The installation should follow the electrical and cable requirements for the selected mode, especially when using the 1 MHz acquisition setting. Encoder supply voltage, signal wiring and compatibility should be verified before commissioning.
The TSXCTZ1B serves as the absolute-position acquisition interface within a TSX Micro automation system. It transfers encoder-derived position information into the controller’s application logic, allowing the PLC program to coordinate movement-related events with other machine functions.

Choose the acquisition mode according to the encoder’s supported timing and the required connection distance. The module supports 200 kHz and 1 MHz SSI acquisition, with different maximum connection distances. Verify the encoder specifications and cable arrangement before selecting the faster mode.
Check the encoder bit resolution, selected interface type, offset and retiming parameters. Confirm that the encoder is transmitting valid position data and that the PLC application interprets the value using the correct configuration.
It is used when connecting a compatible absolute encoder with parallel outputs. An SSI encoder uses a different connection arrangement, so the required interface accessory depends on the encoder’s output format and the module’s wiring requirements.
Check the capture-input wiring, input voltage, sensor response and configured capture logic. Also verify the event conditions in the PLC program and ensure that the encoder data is being acquired correctly when the capture signal occurs.
