The Emerson VE5001 KJ1501X1-BA2 is a DeltaV M-Series AC/DC system power supply used to convert incoming AC power into the DC voltage rails required by compatible control-system hardware. It is intended for installations where the controller and associated I/O components receive power through the M-Series power/controller carrier.
In a process-control cabinet, the power supply feeds the control electronics that collect field measurements, execute control strategies, and communicate with distributed I/O. Its selection must account for the AC input source, the controller and I/O configuration, and the current demand on each output rail.
The VE5001 belongs to the DeltaV M-Series power architecture. It should be distinguished from DC/DC supply variants, which use a DC input source and have different electrical requirements. When replacing an installed unit, the complete part number and carrier arrangement are important for confirming the correct power-supply type.

The VE5001 receives AC power through its primary input and converts it into the DC rails required by the DeltaV M-Series control hardware. The carrier distributes these rails to the compatible controller and associated system components.
AC Input → VE5001 Power Supply → DC Output Rails → Controller and I/O Hardware
During normal operation, the green AC power indicator provides a basic indication of input-power status, while the red error indicator signals an output condition outside the normal tolerance. The supply’s alarm relay can pass status information to an external monitoring circuit.
Power selection requires more than checking the total wattage. The combined load must remain within the overall output limit, and each voltage rail must also remain below its individual current rating. A system can exceed an individual rail’s limit even when its calculated total power is below the overall maximum.
The VE5001 supplies power to compatible control hardware through the M-Series power/controller carrier. The controller processes control strategies and exchanges process data with the I/O subsystem, while the I/O modules connect the control system to field instrumentation and equipment.
AC Distribution → VE5001 → Power/Controller Carrier → Controller and I/O Subsystem → Field Control and Monitoring
| System Element | Function |
|---|---|
| AC Distribution | Supplies the specified AC input to the power supply |
| VE5001 Power Supply | Converts AC input into the required DC output rails |
| Power/Controller Carrier | Provides mounting and electrical interconnection for compatible hardware |
| DeltaV Controller | Executes control strategies and coordinates system operation |
| I/O Interface and Modules | Exchange process signals between the controller and field devices |
| Field Instruments | Generate measurement signals for process monitoring |
| Final Control Devices | Receive control signals for actions such as valve positioning or equipment operation |
| Power Monitoring Circuit | Uses the alarm contact to monitor supply status where connected |
The actual configuration depends on the installed carrier, controller, I/O modules, power demand, and redundancy requirements. The AC/DC supply should not be substituted for a DC/DC variant without confirming the input source and electrical compatibility.

It converts AC input into the DC voltage rails used by compatible M-Series controllers and I/O hardware. The supply mounts on the appropriate carrier, which distributes power to the connected control-system components.
Calculate the expected load for each DC output rail and the total power demand of the connected hardware. Compare the results with both the individual current limits and the total output-power rating. Include the actual controller and I/O configuration in the calculation.
Not automatically. The BA-series unit is associated with AC/DC power conversion, while the BC-series variants are DC/DC supplies. Their input sources and electrical specifications differ, so confirm the complete part number, supply source, carrier arrangement, and output requirements before replacement.
Check the AC input, supply wiring, carrier connections, and load on each DC output rail. An overloaded rail or a connected-hardware fault can produce an abnormal output condition. If the input and load are within specifications but the indicator remains on, investigate the supply and connected hardware before returning the system to service.
