The Epro PR6423/13R-030 8mm Eddy Current Sensor is a non-contact eddy current probe used for monitoring relative movement between rotating machine components and a stationary sensing point. It is suited to machinery-monitoring applications where shaft displacement, position, or vibration-related movement needs to be measured without physical contact.
The sensor can be applied to critical rotating equipment such as steam turbines, gas turbines, compressors, pumps, generators, and gearboxes. By continuously observing the relationship between the probe and a conductive machine target, the sensor can supply measurement information to a connected machinery monitoring or protection system.
During operation, the probe is installed facing the monitored conductive surface. Changes in the probe-to-target distance modify the eddy-current response, allowing mechanical movement to be converted into an electrical measurement.
For maintenance and troubleshooting, the PR6423/13R-030 should be considered together with its mounting arrangement, associated cabling, signal-conditioning equipment, and monitoring channel. Incorrect installation can produce symptoms that resemble an actual machinery fault.

The PR6423/13R-030 operates using an electromagnetic eddy-current principle. The probe generates an electromagnetic field near the monitored conductive target. When the distance between the probe and target changes, the electrical response of the sensing circuit changes accordingly.
For a rotating shaft, radial or axial movement causes the probe gap to vary. These changes are detected by the sensor and passed through the associated signal-conditioning path to the machinery monitoring system.
The measurement path can be represented as:
Rotating Shaft → PR6423/13R-030 Probe → Signal Conditioning → Machinery Monitoring System → Alarm / Protection Logic
In a vibration-monitoring application, repeated changes in shaft position generate a changing measurement signal. The monitoring system can analyze this signal to identify abnormal shaft movement or changes in machine operating condition.
The sensor does not physically touch the rotating target. As a result, probe alignment, mounting rigidity, target condition, and the correct probe gap are critical to obtaining a consistent measurement.
The PR6423/13R-030 serves as the sensing element at the front end of a rotating-machinery monitoring channel.
Rotating Equipment → Eddy Current Probe → Signal Conditioning → Monitoring System → Alarm / Shutdown → Operator Interface

The PR6423/13R-030 detects changes in the distance between the eddy current probe and a conductive target. In rotating machinery, this can be used to monitor relative shaft displacement, position, or dynamic movement.
No. It uses non-contact eddy current sensing. The probe is installed with a controlled gap from the conductive target, allowing shaft movement to be measured without physical contact.
The eddy-current response depends on the relationship between the probe and the conductive target. Incorrect positioning, unstable mounting, or an unsuitable probe gap can therefore cause inaccurate, unstable, or misleading measurement signals.
Check the probe mounting, target surface, probe gap, cable connections, signal-conditioning equipment, and monitoring input. If these areas are correct, the actual mechanical condition of the shaft and surrounding machinery should then be investigated.
