It is used in machinery monitoring systems where shaft position, displacement, or vibration-related movement needs to be detected without mechanical contact.
The sensor is installed close to a suitable conductive target, typically a shaft or rotor surface. As the target moves relative to the probe, the electromagnetic response at the sensing tip changes.
