The Epro PR6423/016-100 8mm Eddy Current Sensor is a non-contact displacement sensor used to monitor the relative position and movement of conductive targets in rotating machinery. It belongs to the PR6423 Series and is suitable for machinery monitoring arrangements where shaft movement must be measured without physical contact.
The sensor is commonly installed near a rotating shaft to detect changes in the distance between the sensing head and the conductive target. This measurement method is useful for observing radial shaft movement, axial displacement, shaft position, and vibration-related behavior in rotating equipment.
The PR6423/016-100 operates as the sensing element within a larger measurement chain. A compatible driver or signal-conditioning unit processes the sensor response and passes the resulting measurement to a machinery monitoring system, where the signal can be used for condition monitoring, alarm, or protection functions.
For field maintenance, the sensor mounting position and target relationship are particularly important. Probe gap, alignment, target surface condition, cable routing, and compatibility with the associated signal-conditioning equipment should all be checked when installing or replacing the sensor.

The PR6423/016-100 uses an eddy current sensing method to detect changes in the distance between the sensor and a conductive target. An electromagnetic field generated by the sensing element interacts with the target, and movement of the target changes the electrical response of the sensing circuit.
As a rotating shaft moves relative to the sensor, these changes are transferred to the associated driver or signal converter. The conditioned output can then be interpreted by the machinery monitoring system as displacement, position, or vibration-related information.
Rotating Shaft / Conductive Target → PR6423/016-100 → Signal Converter / Driver → Machinery Monitoring System → Alarm / Protection
The sensor does not independently perform machinery protection or final alarm processing. Measurement quality depends on the complete installation, including probe mounting, sensor-to-target gap, target material and geometry, cable condition, and compatible signal-conditioning equipment.
The PR6423/016-100 occupies the field sensing stage of an eddy current monitoring channel. It converts relative mechanical movement between the sensor and conductive target into a corresponding electrical sensing response.

It serves as the field sensing element that detects relative movement between the sensor and a conductive target. Signal conditioning and final monitoring functions are handled by the associated driver and machinery monitoring equipment.
The monitoring system measures relative distance between the sensor and target. If the sensor itself moves because of a loose mounting arrangement, that movement can appear as a change in shaft position and produce an incorrect measurement.
The sensor-to-target gap, alignment, target material, target geometry, mounting rigidity, cable routing, and compatibility with the driver should all be checked. These factors directly influence the quality of the resulting measurement.
Check the mechanical installation and target relationship first, then inspect the cable and connections and verify the driver or signal converter. Comparing the affected measurement channel with a known-good channel can help determine whether the sensor itself is the source of the abnormal signal.
