The sensing head should be installed with the correct orientation and probe-to-target gap specified for the complete measurement system. Stable mounting is important because unintended probe movement can be interpreted as a change in shaft position.
An unstable signal can result from probe movement, incorrect probe-to-target spacing, damaged cabling, poor connections, target-surface conditions, or problems in the associated driver or signal-conditioning equipment. The complete measurement chain should be checked rather than replacing the sensor immediately.
