The Schneider VW3A3307 is an Altivar PROFIBUS DP Communication Card used to connect compatible Altivar variable speed drives to a PROFIBUS DP industrial network. It adds fieldbus communication capability to the drive, allowing control commands, operating data, status information, and drive parameters to be exchanged with a PLC or other PROFIBUS DP master.
In a typical automation cabinet, the VW3A3307 is installed in the communication interface of the compatible Altivar drive. The drive continues to handle motor control locally, while the PROFIBUS connection gives the plant controller access to the drive through the network.
This arrangement is particularly useful when several drives are installed on the same production line. Instead of wiring individual run commands and feedback signals to every drive, the controller can exchange the required information through the PROFIBUS DP network. Drive status and diagnostic information can also be made available to the supervisory control system.

The VW3A3307 acts as the communication interface between the internal control system of the Altivar drive and a PROFIBUS DP network.
A PLC or other PROFIBUS DP master sends process commands through the network. The communication card passes these commands to the drive control electronics, which then handles the actual motor operation. Depending on the drive configuration, the controller can issue commands such as start/stop and speed references while receiving status and operating information from the drive.
For a production line with several motors, the same PROFIBUS network can be used to coordinate individual Altivar drives. The PLC can monitor whether each drive is running, stopped, faulted, or ready and can react accordingly in the control program.
The communication card therefore does not replace the drive’s motor-control functions. It provides the data path that allows those functions to be managed from the plant automation network.

The communication link can be used for drive control commands, operating status, process-related values, and parameter information supported by the particular Altivar drive and its configured communication profile.
No. The drive retains its own motor-control functions. The communication card provides an additional control and data interface, allowing a PROFIBUS DP master to interact with the drive as part of the automation system.
Check the PROFIBUS station address, master configuration, drive communication settings, control-command source, reference source, and the communication card installation. A network connection alone does not guarantee that the drive has been configured to accept commands through PROFIBUS.
A PROFIBUS DP network can contain multiple drive nodes, provided the drives and communication interfaces are compatible with the network architecture. Each node must be correctly addressed and configured in the PROFIBUS master.
