The Schneider Electric HMISCU8A5 is a Harmony SCU small touch HMI controller that combines a 5.7-inch color touchscreen with an embedded programmable controller. It is intended for compact machines and simple process-control applications where operators need a local interface alongside integrated control functions.
The HMISCU8A5 uses a digital-I/O configuration with 16 digital inputs and 10 digital outputs, including high-speed input and pulse-output functions. It suits equipment that relies primarily on discrete signals, such as packaging machinery, material-handling systems and automated assembly stations. Applications requiring built-in analog I/O should be evaluated against the HMISCU8B5 variant instead.
The controller operates on 24 V DC and provides Ethernet, USB, serial and CANopen communication interfaces. Operators can use the touchscreen to monitor machine states, view alarms and adjust permitted settings, while the embedded controller executes the configured application logic. The HMI screens, I/O behavior and communication settings are configured using compatible Schneider Electric engineering software.

The HMISCU8A5 combines operator interaction with embedded machine-control logic. Digital inputs receive signals from switches, proximity sensors and other discrete devices. The controller processes these signals according to the application program and updates the digital outputs and touchscreen accordingly.
For example, in a packaging machine, sensors can detect product position and machine state while the controller manages the configured sequence of operations. The touchscreen can display cycle progress, operating status and alarms, allowing an operator to make permitted adjustments without a separate HMI and PLC.
High-speed inputs can be assigned to supported counting or event functions, while pulse outputs can be configured for compatible pulse-based control tasks. Ethernet, serial and CANopen interfaces support data exchange with compatible devices. The exact behavior depends on the control program, I/O assignments and connected equipment.
The HMISCU8A5 acts as the local operator interface and embedded controller. It receives discrete field signals, executes programmed logic, updates the display and communicates with compatible equipment through its available interfaces.

The HMISCU8A5 has 16 digital inputs and 10 digital outputs, including high-speed input and pulse-output functions. It is the digital-I/O variant of the 5.7-inch Harmony SCU controller family.
The HMISCU8A5 does not include the analog I/O configuration found on the HMISCU8B5. If the application requires analog measurement or analog output signals, compare the required signal types and ranges with the B5 model’s specifications.
The controller supports Ethernet, USB, serial communication and CANopen. The appropriate interface depends on the connected device, selected protocol and application configuration.
The Harmony SCU family uses a 22 mm mounting-hole arrangement rather than the conventional rectangular cutout used by many panel HMIs. Before replacing another display, verify the panel mounting method and the required installation arrangement.
