The Schneider Electric HMIGTO1310 is a compact operator terminal in the Harmony GTO series, built for machines that need a local touchscreen interface without dedicating cabinet space to a larger HMI. Its 3.5-inch color TFT display presents operating values, alarm messages, machine status, and configured control screens at 320 × 240 pixel QVGA resolution.
A key distinction between the HMIGTO1310 and the closely related HMIGTO1300 is Ethernet connectivity. The HMIGTO1310 includes a 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX Ethernet port alongside a configurable RS-232C/RS-485 serial interface. This makes it suitable for installations where the operator panel needs to communicate with a PLC over Ethernet or connect to compatible serial equipment. The serial communication method is selected according to the application configuration.
Consider a compact assembly machine with a PLC connected to the plant’s automation network. The HMIGTO1310 can display cycle status, production counts, operating parameters, and fault messages while allowing operators to acknowledge alarms or adjust permitted settings. Ethernet can support communication with a compatible controller, while the serial interface offers an alternative for supported devices that use a serial protocol.
The terminal uses a nominal 24 V DC supply and supports Vijeo Designer for HMI project development. The application determines the displayed screens, data objects, alarm behavior, and operator commands. Its 96 MB application memory supports the specified terminal configuration, while USB interfaces allow compatible peripheral and service operations.
Because the HMIGTO1310 combines Ethernet with serial communication, it can accommodate different control-system layouts. However, the available interfaces do not automatically make every PLC or protocol compatible. The controller driver, network settings, serial parameters, and application project must be configured for the connected equipment.
When replacing an existing unit, the main checks are the original project, communication method, panel cutout, power supply, and controller configuration. Although the HMIGTO1300 shares the same general display format, its lack of Ethernet makes it unsuitable as a direct substitute where the existing application depends on the HMIGTO1310’s network interface.

The HMIGTO1310 acts as the operator interface between a person and a PLC-controlled machine. Its internal processor runs the configured HMI application, while the touchscreen and function keys provide access to operating information and permitted commands.
A typical communication path is:
PLC or Controller → Ethernet or Serial Communication → HMIGTO1310 → Touchscreen → Operator
During operation, the terminal exchanges process data with the controller using the driver configured in Vijeo Designer. The application presents this information as operating values, machine-state indicators, alarms, and graphical controls. When an operator touches a control or presses a programmed function key, the application sends the corresponding request through the configured communication channel.
The Ethernet interface supports 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX connections. With a compatible controller and configured protocol, the terminal can exchange data over the industrial network without requiring a direct serial link. Network addressing and controller communication settings must match the plant’s configuration.
COM1 supports either RS-232C or RS-485, selected through software configuration. Since these interfaces use different electrical arrangements and wiring requirements, the selected mode must correspond to the connected device. The serial protocol and communication parameters must also match the controller.
Vijeo Designer determines how the terminal behaves. The project defines the screens, controller addresses, displayed variables, alarms, and permitted operator actions. For a replacement terminal, engineers should verify the project version and communication drivers rather than assuming that an existing application will operate unchanged.
The HMIGTO1310 does not replace the PLC’s control logic. The controller remains responsible for machine sequencing, interlocks, and physical outputs. The HMI provides the visual interface and passes operator requests to the controller through the configured communication path.
The HMIGTO1310 occupies the local operator-interface layer of a machine control system. Its Ethernet and configurable serial interface allow it to fit different communication arrangements, provided the selected controller and protocol are supported.

The HMIGTO1310 includes a 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX Ethernet interface and a configurable RS-232C/RS-485 COM1 port. The HMIGTO1300 has no Ethernet interface and uses separate RS-232C and RS-485 serial ports. This distinction can determine whether an existing network-based HMI project can be retained without changing the communication architecture.
No. COM1 is configurable for RS-232C or RS-485 operation. The selected mode must match the connected device and the project’s communication settings; it is not a pair of independent serial ports.
Verify the target model, project version, controller driver, Ethernet or serial settings, screen configuration, and function-key assignments. Back up the original project and test communication with the connected PLC before placing the machine back into service.
It can display configured process information within its 3.5-inch QVGA screen, but the available viewing area may be restrictive for complex diagrams or many simultaneous values. A larger Harmony GTO model may be more appropriate if the operator needs to see several process areas at once.
