The GE SSF16G216 is a Power Break II Insulated Case Circuit Breaker used for protection and switching in industrial and commercial electrical distribution systems. It is intended for applications where large electrical loads require controlled interruption and overcurrent protection within a low-voltage distribution system.
As part of a distribution assembly, the circuit breaker monitors current flowing through the protected circuit and interrupts the circuit when a qualifying fault or overcurrent condition is detected. It can also be used for routine circuit switching and equipment isolation during maintenance.
The SSF16G216 is particularly relevant to switchgear, motor control, plant distribution, and other installations where feeder protection must be coordinated with upstream and downstream protective devices.

The SSF16G216 is installed in series with the circuit being protected. Under normal conditions, current passes through the breaker to supply the connected load.
A simplified protection path is:
Power Source → SSF16G216 Circuit Breaker → Distribution Circuit → Electrical Load
The breaker monitors the electrical conditions of the protected circuit. When an overcurrent or short-circuit condition reaches the applicable trip threshold, the breaker mechanism opens the circuit and interrupts current flow.
Once the circuit has been isolated, maintenance personnel can investigate the fault before restoring power. In normal operation, the breaker can also be operated as a switching and isolation device according to the requirements of the installation.
The SSF16G216 sits between the electrical source and the downstream distribution or load circuit.
| System Element | Function |

The SSF16G216 is an insulated case circuit breaker used to protect and switch electrical distribution circuits. Its protection function interrupts the circuit when an applicable overcurrent or fault condition is detected.
It can be used in low-voltage distribution equipment such as industrial switchgear, feeder assemblies, motor-related distribution systems, and plant electrical distribution panels.
The breaker configuration, system voltage, continuous current requirements, available fault current, conductor ratings, protection settings, and coordination with upstream and downstream protective devices should be verified before replacement.
Do not simply reset the breaker without identifying the cause. Check the downstream circuit and connected equipment for overloads, short circuits, insulation problems, or other abnormal conditions before restoring power.
