The Emerson ZR32K5E-TFD-800 is a Copeland ZR series hermetic scroll compressor used in commercial air-conditioning equipment. It is suited to systems that require refrigerant compression for continuous cooling, including packaged air-conditioning units, commercial HVAC installations and light industrial climate-control systems.
This model uses a three-phase, 460 V AC, 60 Hz electrical configuration. Its nominal R-22 cooling capacity is 32,600 Btu/h at an evaporating temperature of 45°F and a condensing temperature of 130°F. Capacity changes with operating conditions and refrigerant selection, so the nominal rating should not be treated as a fixed output under every load.
The compressor uses a scroll mechanism in which an orbiting scroll works against a fixed scroll to compress refrigerant vapor. Suction and discharge stub connections link the compressor to the refrigeration circuit, while the specified polyolester (POE) oil lubricates its internal mechanism. Refrigerant compatibility, piping cleanliness, electrical protection and correct system charging are key considerations when installing this model.

The ZR32K5E-TFD-800 compresses refrigerant through the movement of two scroll elements. One scroll remains fixed while the other orbits around it, forming enclosed pockets that move toward the center of the assembly. As the pockets decrease in volume, the refrigerant vapor pressure rises before the compressed vapor leaves through the discharge connection.
In an air-conditioning circuit, low-pressure vapor returning from the evaporator enters the compressor through the suction line. The compressor raises the refrigerant pressure and temperature, then sends the vapor to the condenser, where heat is rejected. After passing through the expansion device, the refrigerant returns to the evaporator to absorb heat from the conditioned space.
Operating performance depends on refrigerant type, evaporating and condensing temperatures, return-gas conditions and the overall heat-transfer capacity of the system. For example, the published R-22 capacity is 32,600 Btu/h at one specified rating point and 42,600 Btu/h at another. The actual capacity therefore needs to be considered against the system’s expected operating conditions.
Lubrication and refrigerant management also affect operation. The correct oil charge, clean piping and suitable refrigerant conditions help maintain the scroll mechanism. Abnormal pressure, inadequate refrigerant flow or unsuitable electrical conditions can trigger protective shutdowns or contribute to premature wear.
The compressor drives refrigerant circulation through the air-conditioning circuit. It receives vapor from the evaporator and discharges compressed refrigerant toward the condenser, working with the heat exchangers and expansion device to complete the cooling cycle.
