The Emerson DST1402 Digitax ST Servo Drive is an AC servo drive in the Digitax ST family, used to regulate motor current and control motion in industrial machinery. Compared with the DST1401, the DST1402 has a higher continuous output current rating, making it a separate selection option for servo axes with greater current requirements.
The DST1402 operates from a three-phase 380–480 V AC supply and has a rated output current of 2.7 A and a peak output current of 8.1 A. These ratings are relevant when matching the drive to a servo motor and its mechanical load. The correct selection depends on the motor’s current demand, acceleration profile, stopping frequency and the thermal conditions inside the control cabinet.
In a packaging machine, for example, a servo axis may need to accelerate a feed roller quickly, maintain a controlled speed during material transport and decelerate before the next indexing operation. The drive regulates motor output throughout this sequence, while the controller coordinates the movement with other machine operations.
The Digitax ST family includes different current ratings and control variants. Before replacing a DST1402, check the complete model designation, supply voltage, motor feedback arrangement and control interface. A drive from the same family is not automatically interchangeable if its current rating or installed control variant differs.

The DST1402 receives three-phase AC power and converts it into controlled electrical output for a compatible servo motor. Its power stage regulates motor current according to the active control mode and the commands supplied by the motion-control system.
During acceleration, the drive increases motor current to produce the torque needed to overcome inertia and mechanical resistance. As the axis approaches its target speed or position, the control system adjusts the output to follow the programmed motion profile. During deceleration, the drive manages the motor’s response and any regenerative energy according to the installation’s braking arrangement.
Consider a machine that transfers products between conveyor sections. The servo axis must move the transfer mechanism to a defined position, stop accurately and wait for the next sequence. The controller determines when the movement starts and ends, while the DST1402 controls the motor response within its current and operating limits.
The drive’s rated and peak current figures must be considered separately. The 8.1 A peak rating does not mean that the drive can supply that current continuously. Motor selection and commissioning must account for the application’s duty cycle, acceleration requirements and drive thermal limits.
The DST1402 serves as the power-control stage between the electrical supply and the servo motor. The motion controller issues commands, the drive regulates motor output, and compatible feedback equipment reports the motor’s response.

The DST1402 has a rated output current of 2.7 A and a peak rating of 8.1 A, compared with 1.5 A and 4.5 A for the DST1401. The choice depends on the motor’s current demand, acceleration profile and duty cycle.
No. The 8.1 A figure is the peak output current rating. Continuous operation must remain within the drive’s rated current and applicable thermal limits.
Review the motor current demand, acceleration settings, mechanical load, feedback configuration and drive fault history. Confirm that the motor and drive ratings suit the required motion profile before changing current limits.
A braking resistor may be required when deceleration or frequent stopping causes regenerative energy to exceed the installation’s permitted handling capacity. The decision depends on the drive configuration, machine inertia and operating cycle.
