The Schneider STBACI0320 Modicon STB Standard Analog Input Module is an analog input interface for the Modicon STB distributed I/O platform. It is used to bring continuous electrical signals from field instruments into the automation system, allowing a controller to monitor process variables and use the measured values in control logic.
The module is suited to distributed machine and process architectures where analog sensors or transmitters are installed away from the main controller. Instead of routing every analog signal back to a centralized PLC cabinet, the STB I/O system can collect field measurements locally and exchange the resulting data with the control network.
Typical applications include monitoring process conditions such as temperature, pressure, level, flow, or other continuously varying variables supported by the configured field instrumentation. The analog input channel converts the connected field signal into data that can be handled by the STB system and made available to the controller.
For commissioning, the input module provides a defined point for checking the relationship between the field transmitter, local wiring, distributed I/O island, and controller. Abnormal readings can therefore be investigated across the complete signal path rather than assuming that the sensor or PLC is responsible for the fault.

The STBACI0320 receives an analog electrical signal from a connected field instrument and converts the input into a digital value that can be processed by the Modicon STB system.
Field Sensor / Transmitter → STBACI0320 → STB I/O Island → Network Interface → PLC / Controller
The field device generates a continuously varying signal corresponding to the measured process condition. The analog input module acquires this signal and makes the resulting measurement data available to the STB island’s communication interface.
The controller can then use the input value for monitoring, regulation, sequencing, alarming, or other application functions. The module itself does not determine the required process response; it supplies measurement data to the control application.
Signal quality depends on the complete measurement path. Field wiring, sensor condition, signal compatibility, grounding, module configuration, and network communication should therefore be considered together when an analog value appears incorrect or unstable.
The STBACI0320 occupies the analog signal acquisition layer of a Modicon STB distributed I/O island. It provides the local interface between field instrumentation and the STB communication infrastructure.
Field Instrument → STBACI0320 → STB I/O Island → Network Interface Module → PLC / Controller → HMI / SCADA
| System Element | Function |
|---|---|
| Field Sensor / Transmitter | Generates the analog process signal |
| STBACI0320 | Acquires the analog field signal |
| STB I/O Island | Provides distributed I/O infrastructure |
| Network Interface | Exchanges I/O data with the control network |
| PLC / Controller | Processes the measured value and executes control logic |
| HMI / SCADA | Displays process information and operator diagnostics |

The module should be installed as part of a compatible STB island with the appropriate terminal base, power distribution, network interface, and controller communication arrangement. The complete island configuration should be verified before commissioning.
A systematic error can originate from the field instrument, wiring, signal configuration, channel assignment, or input scaling used by the control application. The field signal should be compared with the value received by the STB system to determine where the discrepancy begins.
Possible causes include sensor instability, electrical interference, poor wiring connections, grounding issues, unsuitable signal conditions, or problems elsewhere in the distributed I/O path. The input should be checked at the field device and at the STBACI0320 channel to isolate the source.
Record the module position, channel assignment, field wiring, connected instrument, and relevant STB configuration. After replacement, verify that the same input channel is recognized correctly and that the controller receives the expected process value.
