The Schneider Electric HMIGTO3510 is a 7-inch operator terminal from the Harmony GTO series, intended for machine control panels that need a clear graphical interface and direct access to operating functions. Its 800 × 480 pixel WVGA color display provides more working area than the smaller 3.5-inch and 5.7-inch GTO models, making it easier to arrange process indicators, alarm messages, operating parameters, and machine diagrams on the same screen.
In a packaging line, the HMIGTO3510 can display conveyor status, production counters, recipe settings, and fault information while allowing operators to adjust permitted parameters through the touchscreen. Eight programmable function keys provide direct access to frequently used operations, such as opening a machine overview, acknowledging alarms, or navigating to a maintenance screen. The exact key assignments depend on the HMI application.
The terminal supports Ethernet communication alongside RS-232C and RS-485 serial interfaces. This combination is useful when a machine communicates with its primary PLC over Ethernet but also needs a serial connection to an auxiliary controller or another supported device. The selected communication drivers and port configurations determine which equipment can be connected and how data is exchanged.
The HMIGTO3510 runs the Harmony HMI environment and supports Vijeo Designer for application development. Its 96 MB Flash EPROM application memory and 128 KB battery-backed SRAM support the specified terminal configuration. An SD card slot and USB interfaces provide additional options for supported project-transfer, storage, and service operations.
For an existing installation, the most important considerations are the original HMI project, controller drivers, Ethernet addressing, serial wiring, function-key assignments, and panel mounting requirements. The larger display can accommodate more information, but the usefulness of that additional space depends on how the screens are organized and how operators interact with the machine.

The HMIGTO3510 functions as the operator interface between personnel and a PLC-controlled machine. Its internal processing environment runs the configured HMI application, while the touchscreen and programmable function keys allow operators to view process data and issue permitted commands.
A typical system follows this communication path:
PLC or Machine Controller → Ethernet / Serial Communication → HMIGTO3510 → Touchscreen and Function Keys → Operator
During operation, the terminal exchanges data with a compatible controller through the configured communication driver. The HMI application presents information such as operating states, production quantities, process values, and alarm conditions. When an operator touches a screen object or presses an assigned function key, the application processes the input and sends the corresponding request through the selected communication channel.
Ethernet supports communication over a compatible industrial network. This arrangement allows the HMI and PLC to exchange data without requiring a direct serial connection, provided that the controller, protocol, network settings, and application driver are compatible.
The COM1 and COM2 serial interfaces support equipment that uses RS-232C or RS-485. These interfaces have different electrical characteristics and wiring requirements. The appropriate port must be selected for the connected device, and the communication parameters must match the controller configuration.
Vijeo Designer determines the terminal’s application behavior. Engineers configure the screens, displayed variables, alarm messages, function-key assignments, and operator controls within the project. The SD card and USB interfaces can support applicable service and transfer procedures when used with compatible media and software workflows.
The HMIGTO3510 does not replace the PLC’s machine-control logic. The controller remains responsible for sequencing, interlocks, and physical outputs. The HMI provides the visual interface through which operators monitor the process and submit authorized requests.
The HMIGTO3510 occupies the local operator-interface layer of an automation system. Its Ethernet connection supports network-based controller communication, while the serial ports accommodate compatible devices that use RS-232C or RS-485.

The HMIGTO3510 uses a 7-inch WVGA display with 800 × 480 resolution and eight programmable function keys. The HMIGTO2310 has a 5.7-inch QVGA display with 320 × 240 resolution. Both support Ethernet and serial communication, but the HMIGTO3510 offers more screen area for applications that need additional process information or a more detailed screen layout.
The terminal has an Ethernet interface and two serial interfaces, allowing different communication paths to be configured. Whether multiple connections can operate together as required depends on the HMI project, supported drivers, controller configuration, and communication settings. Verify the intended architecture before commissioning.
Check the Vijeo Designer project version, target terminal, controller drivers, network addressing, serial settings, screen layout, and function-key assignments. Back up the original project and test both data exchange and operator commands before returning the machine to normal operation.
The rating applies to the front panel when the terminal is mounted under the specified conditions. The rear enclosure has IP20 protection, so the control cabinet must provide suitable protection for the rear side. Correct gasket installation and a suitable panel surface are necessary to maintain the intended front-panel protection.
